MY
WORK
Michael Cowdroy Artist
Oil paintings, etchings, life drawings and watercolours
I try to capture the magic of the light and shadow - the feeling that the atmosphere of light at certain times of day can give to people.
In my etchings, by using a process called aquatint, I look for ways to reveal light and shadow. The aquatint process can also allow me to capture different textures within the image.
When I’m travelling overseas, or even locally, I like to use my small watercolour kit. It allows me to quickly capture the essence of a sight that is interesting to me in that moment.
This series of life drawings were completed while I was a student in the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia.
This is a series of paintings exploring the digital medium and completed in recent years while travelling overseas and around Australia
